Press release
Montpellier-Clermont Top14 match of the 12th
of February 2012
RUGBY: the Phnom Penh rubbish damp kids « in the
scrum »
IN
CAMBODIA KIDS GET A SMILE BACK ON THEIR FACES.
Quite a number of sequels reminds
after 25 years of genocide and war. Meanwhile the
rubbish dump kids are about to turn away from misery.
This small miracle is due to the NGO “Pour
un Sourire d’Enfant” (PSE),
founded in 1993 by
Marie-France and Christian des
PALLIERES.
Currently PSE feeds, looks after
and supplies education and professional courses to more
than 6,000 pupils coming from the poorest children of
the city. Among which 2,000 have already found back
their dignity with a decent job.
RUGBY:
Willingly promoted sport by PSE
Sport is a fundamental parameter
to help the children to recover a normal way of life.
PSE has chosen the
rugby as a pilot sport to develop in its centers as this
activity allowed to acquire the basic value of
solidarity and mutual aid.
The PSE rugby teams, among which
the senior one « The GARUDAS », have been settled since
the beginning, in 2000, through a strong link with the
Cambodian Federation of Rugby, also newly created at
this stage. Boys, as well as the girls, have been
several times Cambodian rugby Champions. Several PSE
players are part of the national team and have actively
participated in the first ever victories of Cambodia
against Indonesia, Lao and Brunei. For the record, the
first ever international try for Cambodia has been
scored in May 2005 during the first international match
against Macau, played in Hong Kong, by a PSE player,
becoming consequently the first international Cambodian
scorer.
FRANCOIS TRINH-DUC: PATRON WILLING TO PROMOTE THE « GARUDAS »
After his visit, last July, of our
Phnom Penh main center François TRINH-DUC has clearly
engaged himself to use his celebrity status to promote
PSE and the Cambodian Rugby Federation. Becoming patron
of the « GARUDAS », he has decided to perpetuate his
involvement to this end to facilitate the mobilization
of sponsors ready to support the rugby development in
Cambodia.
MONTPELLIER-CLERMONT 12TH OF FEBRUARY MATCH AT « YVES DU
MANOIR » STADIUM: A GREAT OCCASION TO SUPPORT THE
PROMISING YOUNG CAMBODIAN RUGBY PLAYER
In Phnom Penh the practicing PSE
field is just broken up and dangerous for playing. It
needs to be redone and maintained and to create an
actual rugby school recognized by the Cambodian
Federation of Rugby by calling qualified coaches and
educators and organizing exchanges around this sport in
Cambodia. This target has a cost. PSE and CFR rely on
the generosity of new sponsors to tackle, once again,
the misery and abuse and convert the try: coming form a
misery life to a normal one. Thanks to you all to
support us and this rugby challenge.
